Why Not American?

So, as some of you know, I'm shopping for a car. On my short list is the Pontiac G6. Many have told me, don't buy American - buy Japanese!

Why?

When I ask them why, they stutter and stammer and give odd answers such as, it depends on which day the car was made. According to this person you shouldn't buy an American car that was built on a Monday or Friday. Interesting.

So, why not buy American? I want an answer! Why??

There's nothing wrong with buying American. It's all in the owner. If you take care of ANY car, it will be good to you. I have a Pontiac that's 11 years old, 140,000 miles and still runs lovely. So, just take care of your car.

That's good advice - you shouldn't buy a car that was built on a Monday or a Friday. But that goes for any car - Foreign or Domestic. On Friday, all the workers can think about is the weekend (partying, drinking, etc.) and Monday they come to work with a hangover! LOL But neither you nor I would ever be able to tell if a car was built on a Friday or a Wednesday so don't worry too much about that.

You already know that I favor Japanese cars :)

One good reason is reliability/dependability. They have an excellent track record.

Another good reason is the warranty. I know Toyota's powertrain warranty (that's the engine and transmission we're talking about) is 5 years/60,000 miles. Most American carmakers powertrain warranty is only 3 years/36,000 miles. Another thing about warranties, if you are buying a used car, some carmakers slash the warranty b/c you're the 2nd (or 3rd) owner. So if you're considering a used car - ask about the warranty and get it in writing!

Here I go babbling again...

Brianna has talked me into getting Toyotas, and I must admit I've had no troubles with them. Great gas mileage, and great performance.Chat with her for more info....she knows a lot about them!I had a Camry, now I have a Corolla.

Oh you'd be suprised Sara. When we order parts (Toyota) by 3pm, they come in the VERY NEXT DAY.

It takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get parts from FORD.

I totally agree with Kim :) Honda's and Toyota's definetely hold their value.
