More of the same

For the first time in almost two weeks, last night I successfully went to bed WITHOUT coughing, gagging or throwing up my dinner! Success! I still have a cough and am working through my 6th box of lotion coated tissue but I'm feeling a ton better. My voice is almost back too.

Unfortunately, to get to this point this means doing nothing but sitting at home while I get better. During my down time I've been knitting a Shetland Triangle shawl. Tonight discovered (after finishing my eighth repeat!) that I may have used needles that are too small. The lace pattern isn't that visible so I may rip it out and start over with larger needles. Sadness! I've put it aside, I'll decide tomorrow.

Not socks!

I decided to try something other than socks. Here's the lace pattern I chose for a Christmas shawl in Blue Sky Alpaca Silk. It's quite easy, I just have to pay attention. Can't wait to see how it looks when it's blocked!

Cami Chic

Still sick but I've joined a Hazel Knits Artisan Soc Cami Chic KnitAlong (courtesy of the Ravelry forum). At least it keeps me quiet and resting while the cough syrup, Motrin and Sudafed work their magic. The KAL plan is to knit whatever you want while using the Cami Chic. It'll be interesting to see how it knits up with different patterns, needles and knitting styles.

I have a hard time with variegated yarn so Cami Chic is a challenge for me. After some hunting, I finally settled on a sock pattern that will hopefully let the different colors show without any significant pooling.

Avert your eyes...whining ahead

I'm tired of being sick! I feel like I'm doing something wrong and that's why I'm not getting better. Now when I get caught up in coughing, my whole back and legs kill me. It's like a million needles are poking me. I'm tired of being out of breath and hot and sweaty. I'M DONE. I GIVE UP!!

Am I the only one that sees the similarity?

American Idol's Simon Cowel watching Fantasia sing:

Simba spots an intruder in his house:

Pretty much the same concept and expression if you ask me.

Yes, the answer is yes dammit!

For those of you who have questions about whether or not you have to file or pay taxes, here's a great website:

Why do I have to pay taxes?

The best part of American Idol tonight...

The PC/Mac Sad Song commercial.

Leaf Lace Socks

I finished a pair of socks last week. I thought the green yarn would be more solid and was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. If you look closely at the photos, you can see the subtle changes of colors. That's especially appropriate for a lace pattern. I liked the color so much, I bought more this morning. I also made the cuff shorter since the ladies I knit for like shorter socks but I now regret that. Don't the socks look stunted without a longer cuff? I am pleased though. They were a quick knit. Oh, and stretchy!

Things that don't make sense

I finally succumbed and called in sick today after working three hours. I'd rather save my sick hours for something like, hm. Well, like a broken bone or something. I'm due a broken bone anyway. But I feel like crap and am happy that I have sick hours to use.

How does one "catch" a cold anyway? Which reminds me, how does one "let" herself go? Speaking of things that annoy me, what's up with the term "heavy-set?" Furthermore, why write something on your blog/forum/anywhere online and then put a line through it? Obviously you want us to see that you decided not to officially publish that part but obviously you want us to read it but only with great difficulty because of that stupid line!!

ARGH!

Feeling cranky

I finally caught Apollo's cold. I thought I would be able to avoid it but no luck. Not only this but one of my neighbor's is really annoying me with her gossiping and constantly examining my life. But, I finished the second baby sock today. So there's that.

Fun cow fact for Faythe

So today I went to Needlecraft Cottage to pick up some needles and walked out with extras, as usual. I decided to try two new yarns, something that's more suitable for summer. Of course I have no idea what that is, but I just wanted to try something new and any excuse to buy more knitting-crack is a good one.

The first yarn I chose is Maizy which is 82% corn fiber and 18% elastic nylon. It feels like soft cotton and looks like it will require a smaller needle I'm hoping to make something for my aunt who appreciates the more earthy things in life. You know, like medical marijuana.

The other yarn is Panda Silk in "Denim Tones." It's 52% bamboo, 43% superwash merino wool and 5% combed silk. The silk gives it a nice shine, the bamboo gives it that cottony feeling and I'm sure the wool makes it strong. And you know what? It stinks! OK, well not that bad but it definitely has it's own unique odor.

After I finish up these baby socks I'll cast on. I've decided I'm going to miss my self imposed Mothers Day deadline anyway so I might as well cast on a couple more pair and send them all at once.

Meanwhile I just saw Mike Rowe artificially inseminate a cow on Dirty Jobs. Did you know they stick their arm in the cow's butt? They do so they can feel for the uterus. Then they stick the little metal stick (it's super thin) in the cow's hoo hoo and drop off the semen. Fun!

While the cat's away...

The Boss is gone and the guys are having a good time being more laid back. Don't get me wrong, they're getting their work done but they're being a lot more silly than usual. Right now they're comparing Chuck Norris jokes from ChuckNorris Facts.com. I've just been informed that Chuck Norris could karate chop this cake of yarn I'm knitting from and it would knit itself into a sock.

You gotta love working with boys, er, men.
